With interior preparation, I either move out furniture and fixtures temporarily or wrap and cover them carefully. I will consult with you about this beforehand. I may remove chipping paint or wallpaper. After that, I fill holes or cracks and clean the walls. For exterior painting, I often use pressure washing, caulking, patching or sanding to properly prepare the substrate. The steps depend on the type of exterior material.
Priming
This important step helps ensure that your paint looks seamless, beautiful and professional. It helps seal in tannins, old finishes or other substances that could otherwise cause imperfections once I paint over the substrate. In addition to this, primer helps paint adhere to a substrate, making it an important component of a long-lasting paint job. This is important for both interior and exterior paint.
Painting and Finishing
I use the right amount of paint coats to yield a smooth and even look. If you request a special coating, I apply it. When the paint is set and dry, I work to carefully replace any items that were temporarily moved, covered or removed. For example, if I removed a wall sconce and light switch plates, I replace them. The professional tape that I use does not make paint peel or chip. I check carefully to ensure that everything is in its place. 1. Consultation: The free consultation can be in person (following Covid-safe protocols) or by video.
2. Pricing and proposal: You will receive an immediate price quote at the bid, followed by a detailed bid quote.
3. Pre-painting plan: On the first day of the project I walk-through to reconfirm all details, paints, and the sequence of areas.
4. Protection: I cover floors, fixtures, equipment with plastic and clean drop cloths. On exteriors, all pavements, decks, plants, furniture, and grills are covered with drop cloths or plastic coverings. All windows and screens are protected.
5. Planning: I move furniture away from walls and cover as necessary and tape off necessary edges, fixtures, remove outlet and switch plate covers.
6. Expert repairs: Exterior repairs include power-washing with bleach, wood replacement, screwing and nailing loose boards, lots of plastic wood filler and elastic spackle. Interior repairs include patching, caulking, sanding and spot-priming all holes and cracks.
7. Preparation: Glossy surfaces are sanded for maximum adhesion and smooth finish. Bare wood is primed to prevent tannin bleed and ensure adhesion. Stains are primed to prevent bleed through.
8. Painting: Your choice of high-quality finish is expertly applied for a stunning result.
9. Clean-up: The jobsite is cleaned daily and thoroughly on completion.
